Secondary Teaching for Mastery (TfM)

Support for departments embedding teaching for mastery across Key Stages 3 and 4

What is involved?

Participants work with a small group of local schools, led by an experienced Mastery Specialist, to implement teaching for mastery approaches across their department.

Work Groups provide opportunities for lesson observation and collaborative planning.

The focus of each Work Group will be determined by local need and context, with Maths Hubs working with their participant schools informed by the subject leader community to identify and respond to their priorities.

Who can take part?

This opportunity is for schools in England that have previously participated in a Secondary Teaching for Mastery Work Group or that have a trained Mastery Specialist in their department.

Participants should be well-placed to lead change within the department.

What will you learn?

  • You will strengthen students’ understanding, reasoning and fluency
  • You will deepen your understanding of teaching for mastery and how to embed it consistently
  • You will improve collaborative approaches to planning, teaching and curriculum development
  • You will build a culture of sustained professional learning through collaboration
  • You will choose a focus area that aligns with your department’s priorities, with resources to support it

What is the cost?

Secondary Teaching for Mastery (TfM) is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme and is free to state-funded schools.

How to get involved

Schools participating in Secondary TfM Work Groups 2025/26 will be contacted by GLOW Maths Hub to confirm their on-going participation in 2026/27.

If your school has previously been involved in our TfM programme but wasn't able to take part in 2025/26, we'd love to work with you again in 2026/27. To sign up, please complete our Secondary Teaching for Mastery registration form here.
